Hi there,

I'm interested in starting a Kidical Mass in Sacramento. I am a fairly recent cyclist (have been commuting to work as much as I can for the past year), and a father of a five-year-old and a pair of two-year-old twins. I have never organized anything like this, but I've recently been going on our areas new Tweed Rides and could envision easily getting help with the organization from those folks and a few others. My son's old preschool and new elementary school have plenty of parents who like to bike with their children so I think the area is ripe for a Kidical Mass.

I guess I'd like some advice on how to begin. I envision starting a blog with information about the event (like Sacramento Tweed: http://sactotweed.blogspot.com/ ) and contacting local bicycle advocacy groups (Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates: http://www.sacbike.org/ ), inviting Alan from EcoVelo to help since he has promoted and participated in the Sacto Tweed events, contacting all the parents I know of course, and perhaps letting local bicycle shops know about the event, perhaps with flyers. Any other advice along those lines?

As for specifics, how long are the rides that you do? Are they roundtrip? I was thinking of having the ride end at a park and bringing ice cream, cups, and spoons, perhaps even trying to get it donated. Thoughts?

I appreciate any and all advice as I attempt to bring this great idea to another metropolitan area.

Thanks,
Warren
